Simon Payn here. I’m the owner of Grounded and I’m looking for some help. I have opportunities from as little as one day per year to a five-month summer student placement.

Casual gardening folks

I plant our gardens in the spring and fall. This means I have a rush of work at those times – more than one person can handle.

So I’m looking for people who’d like to spend a day outdoors, on a casual basis. You’ll either be planting or you’ll be preparing land, including adding mulch.

It’s a fun day out and we’ll pay you $22 per hour. You don’t need any special skills apart from a minimum level of fitness. The most important thing is a love for being outdoors and a love of plants and landscapes.

Summer student

I’m looking for someone to work with me from approximately the beginning of May to around Labour Day 2025.

There will be a mix of things to do. Some of the time you’ll be out and about, helping me in the gardens. The rest of the time you’ll be in the office helping me stay organized. I could also use some help keeping my social media and other marketing organized.

This is a great opportunity for a student who is interested in landscaping, horticulture, the environment, shoreline restoration… Or anyone who likes the idea of being outside on nice days, inside on gloomy days.

You will also have the opportunity to learn about planting and managing landscapes using native plants in a naturalistic way. And how to organize a business.
