Join Grounded’s Team
We’re building our seasonal field team for the coming season.
This work is hands-on, outdoors, and rooted in ecological landscape care — preparing sites, planting native species, and stewarding properties so they establish well over time.
The season has a few distinct rhythms:
- Spring (May–June) is the most intense. This includes planting and site preparation work, which can be physically demanding.
- Summer (July–August) is steadier, focused on maintenance, follow-through, and caring for what’s already in the ground.
- Fall (September–October) includes another installation window, along with ongoing stewardship and seasonal wrap-up.
Two ways people usually work with us
1. On-call / casual field help (especially spring and fall)
We maintain a small list of people we can call on during busy periods.
- Work is as needed, not guaranteed every day or every week
- Hours vary depending on weather, project timing, and site needs
- This suits people who like flexible, physical outdoor work and are comfortable with variability
2. Steadier seasonal role (summer through fall)
Occasionally, someone wants — and is well suited to — carrying more consistent responsibility through the middle of the season.
This usually becomes clear after some time working together on site. There’s no promise up front — just real work and an honest sense of fit.
We sometimes bring on a student for the summer months (May–August) in a more regular capacity. If that’s you, mention it.
The kind of work you’ll be doing
- Site preparation work (digging, moving materials, ground work)
- Planting native trees, shrubs, and perennials
- Garden and shoreline installation work (including fall installs)
- Maintenance and care of established landscapes
- Working carefully and thoughtfully on active sites
This can be strenuous, physical work at times. You’ll be given clear direction and trusted to work independently once things are set.
This role suits someone who:
- Is comfortable with physical outdoor work and sustained effort
- Takes pride in doing things properly
- Can work inside an existing approach rather than reinventing it
- Is reliable when they say they’re available
- Doesn’t need constant supervision or hype to stay engaged
You don’t need to be an expert in ecology. You do need to care about doing solid work.
Liking dogs is a bonus because Rufus is a co-worker.
A note on structure
This is seasonal work. The season ends for everyone in October.
For on-call help, the relationship is simple: when work is available, we reach out; when it’s not, there’s no obligation on either side. For steadier roles, we start with a short paid working period to make sure the rhythm feels right.
Pay
Pay starts at $22/hour, with the rate reflecting experience and level of responsibility.
All work is paid, and WSIB coverage is provided. Details are discussed directly.
If this sounds like your kind of work
Send a short note to hello@groundedgardens.ca introducing yourself and letting us know which kind of availability you’re interested in (on-call or potentially steadier). No need to oversell yourself.
