Spring clean-up is pretty much complete now. The garden can breathe again, particularly the parts that were under a thatch of Little Bluestem stalks.

As with most things ecological, spring clean-up is a dance with nature. We wait, maybe a little frustrated, until it’s warm enough to avoid harming overwintering insects. And we’re careful not to remove too much valuable vegetative matter. At the same time, we want the landscape to look like it’s cared for.

Every day, more plants are emerging. The pace will pick up even more in the next few weeks. Here are a few of the plants that have made an appearance.
